SuperTigre® (pronounced "Super Tiger") is a brand of model aircraft glow engines and matched electric model aircraft power systems distributed by Hobbico of Champaign, Illinois USA.
The company was founded in Bologna, Italy as OSAM (Officina Sperimentale Apparecchi Motori, or Aircraft and Engines Experimental Workshop) in 1937 by Jaures Garofoli, Valerio Ciampollini and a Mr. Betuzzi, first name unknown.
Garofoli's first engine for the company was the OSAM G-1, a 3.5cc spark ignition engine. The war forced the company to curtail production; Garofoli was working for an espresso machine manufacturer at war's end. He partnered with Leonardo Boreani in 1946 to produce a new line of engines under the GB logo.
The first SuperTigre engine, the 4.82cc G-19 diesel, was introduced in 1950 after Garofoli's split from Boreani in 1949.
Today, the brand has been expanded to include a line of six lithium polymer batteries, three brushless outrunner motors and two ESCs. In keeping with SuperTigre's tradition of easy-to-use glow engines, the limited number of electric components are easily matched to the modeler's choice of application. Motors and ESCs are fitted with standard 3.5mm bullet connectors and the batteries are fitted with SuperTigre's proprietary "ST" connectors. Inexpensive plug-in adapters for other types of connectors are available through Hobbico.
