About Me

I am a long time builder and model aircraft, mostly free flight and plastic kits. I like to build and will try to contribute some building tips and whatever else I have time for. I'm keen on getting this stuff under Creative Commons license.

Here is the completed model:

Had my very first flight on Friday. I have got about 50 minutes of flying time in over the weekend with the Slow Fly wing. It's flying great so far, no crashes.

Update: A bit of a flight report. I have now had the model out (with the Slow Flyer wing) 6 times. No crashes. She tends to pitch up a lot into the wind and need lots of down elevator trim. I wouldnt fly with the slow flyer wing in winds higher than 8mph, just not fun. With winds below 5mph its very easy to fly, just like the simulator. Landings are gentle and level (pitch and roll), the model has a very low sink rate with this wing. It can take a lot of space to bleed off speed/altitude for a landing. I did a few (intentional) spins last time out. Its easy to get a nice tight spin, exits are quick and predictable leaving the model in a 45 degree dive. It can do all the 'student' manouvers well: traffic pattern, lazy 8, stalls, spins even loops and stall turns. With the GWS 400 on the 'E' gearing, 2100mah pack and 9x7 GWS slow fly prop I get at least 25 mins of flight time, it would probably be 30+ but I haven't hit the battery cutoff yet.
